All area residents are challenged to “Find Your Super Power” at the 2019 Relay for Life of Greene County. This year’s event to benefit the American Cancer Society is slated for Saturday, April 27, at the Greene County Community Center.
“We had so much fun with our Super Hero theme last year we wanted to bring it back,” said event leadership team chair Tori Riley. “We all have super powers that we find at different times in our lives. Too many people have found them when they had to battle cancer or helped a loved one in the fight. Doctors, nurses, and researchers have super powers, too, so we’re celebrating super powers but working toward the day they aren’t necessary as often.”
Team registration for the Relay for Life of Greene County is in full swing. Like last year, all registrations must be completed online at https://secure.acsevents.org
Captains of 2018 teams have received information from Autumn Larson, chair of the Teams committee.
A Super Power 5K race will be part of the Relay for Life, along with a survivors’ reception hosted by Greene County Medical Center, a community barbecue, entertainment, and the closing luminaria ceremony.
This year, the custom Relay for Life T-shirts will be available to everyone, even persons not on teams. Beginning in early April, Greene County Relay for Life T-shirts will be available for purchase at ShineOn Designs on the north side of the downtown square. The cost will be $16.
All proceeds from the T-shirt sales will go to Relay for Life. Persons who are on Relay teams should turn in their sales receipt to their team captain. The team will receive $16 credit toward its fundraising total for each T-shirt purchased by a team member.
“In past years the T-shirts were used as an incentive for teams to raise money for the Relay, Persons who raised $50 got a T-shirt,” Riley explained. “What we’ve learned is that there are people on teams who don’t particularly want a shirt, and people not on teams who would really like one. So, we’re going to try something new and see how it works out.”
AAI/Spalding is again providing the T-shirts as its sponsorship. “We’re very grateful for AAI’s continuing support and for the flexibility to change up how we use the T-shirts in our total effort for the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life,” Riley said.
